cylonconsulting.com: from WordPress to a fast static site

Cylon's own websiteIn production

We moved our own site off WordPress without losing a page, a post or our search rankings.

The challenge

Our site ran on WordPress and Elementor: slow pages, a stack of plugins to patch, and a backend to keep secure.

What we built

  • A static Astro site built from a one-off export of every page and post
  • The original design kept, then rebuilt page by page as native components
  • The full blog with categories, tags and search
  • All titles, descriptions, social cards and structured data carried over, plus a sitemap
  • A contact form that sends through Microsoft 365

How it works

The WordPress content was exported once into the code repository. Every build turns it into plain HTML pages, with nothing to patch at runtime and no database behind the site. The WordPress backend was switched off in August 2026.

  1. WordPress export
  2. Content in Git
  3. Astro build
  4. Static site

By the numbers

  • 27 pages, 337 blog posts, 5 categories and 37 tags migrated
  • WordPress backend retired in August 2026
